I have been waiting all winter for moments like this! This swan's nest is so easy to get to, and I can't wait for the cygnets to hatch, if they haven't already! These are the same swans I photographed this past winter! I will be back again soon, hopefully with new family photos!!
To get the correct or close as you can exposure, I use the spot meter on my camera and take the reading off of the beak! The rest will fall into place. Bright sunny days are the worst to try to photograph a swan in a surrounding that is all dark, They tend to wash out. So over cast or partly cloudy days are the best time to photograph them. Sunrise or sunset will also add nice lightning! Keep an eye on your local ponds, and enjoy the little things in life!! Sometimes you just have to keep reminding yourself of that! =) I know I do! Happy Spring everyone!!!
One more note, The biggest compliment a wild animal can give you is to fall asleep while you are near them. This means that they trust you, and when they do that, who knows what great photographs you can get!! Just remember they may look peaceful, but they are called "Wild Animals" for a reason! Always use caution! If they keep their necks straight around you or hiss, that means they sense danger, and you may want to take cover! =)
